Candle Care

Check your Wick – Your candle arrives already trimmed to the ideal burn height. Continue to trim the cotton wick to 1/4 inch with a wick trimmer before lighting.

First Time Burn – The first time you light a new candle, let it burn for 3-4 hours until the pool of wax reaches the edge of the vessel. If not properly burned, there is a risk of tunneling down the center of the candle and missing out on hours of enjoyable scent.

Length of Burn – Do not burn your candle for more than 4 hours at a time as this will cause carbon to collect on the wick and the end of your wick will mushroom.

Stay Even and Draft-Free – Burn your candle on an even fire resistant surface and stay away from drafts. The breeze will cause your candle wick to create smoke and at times, soot.

Upcycle the Vessel – Use your creativity to repurpose these vessels when you are done burning!

Aroma components like citrus oils, cinnamon oil, and vanillin in fragrance oils can cause the color of the interior of the vessel to change.

Product Questions, Answered

A few quick answers to help you use and enjoy your Lighthearted product.

How do I prevent my candle from tunneling?

The first burn matters most. Let the candle burn for three to four hours. The melted wax shouldn’t reach the edge of the vessel. There should be some ‘hang up’ on the side of the jar. In subsequent burns the ‘hang up’ will melt away leaving a smooth even pool of wax from edge to edge. Never burn a candle for more than four hours at a time.

How short should I trim the wick?

Your candle arrives with its cotton wick trimmed and ready for the first burn. Before each burn after that, trim the wick to approximately 1/4 inch. A properly trimmed wick helps the candle burn more evenly and reduces mushrooming, smoke, and soot.

Where should I burn my candle?

Place the candle on a level, fire-resistant surface away from drafts. Keep it away from anything flammable, never leave it burning unattended, and keep it out of reach of children and pets.

How long will my candle burn?

Our standard 7 oz. candles have an estimated burn time of 30–40 hours when burned and trimmed properly. Burn time for other candle sizes and vessels can vary, so check the Product Details section on the individual listing.

Who creates the artwork on Lighthearted products?

Every Lighthearted label begins with Lindsay’s original hand-painted watercolor artwork. The artwork is created alongside the fragrance so each scent has a look and a story of its own.
